The Story Behind NPI Shield
As a physician and practicing healthcare provider, I’ve spent more than two decades working inside hospitals, operating rooms, and healthcare systems. Throughout my career, I’ve seen how critical a provider’s National Provider Identifier (NPI) is—not only for patient care, but for every healthcare claim, reimbursement, credentialing, and professional identity.
What many providers don’t realize is that an NPI is much more than just a number. It is the professional identity attached to virtually every medical billing transaction in the United States. Yet despite its importance, most healthcare providers have little visibility into how their NPI is being used or when changes occur.
That realization inspired me to create NPI Shield.

Why I Built NPI Shield
I didn’t build NPI Shield because I wanted to start another healthcare technology company. I built it because, as a healthcare provider, I believe every clinician deserves real-time visibility into the professional identity they are legally responsible for protecting.
Every medical claim, credentialing record, and professional transaction depends on an NPI. Yet providers are often the last to know when something changes. My goal is to change that by giving healthcare professionals the visibility, awareness, and confidence they deserve.
